While each piece is a work-of-art, they are very durable, and are meant to be used in everyday life.
Think of them as "functional art."
Handcrafted with tradition, and embellished
with nickel, these beautiful baskets add
an old-worldelegance
to any modern-day environment.
To create these beautiful baskets,
12" needles are gathered from the forest floor, cleaned of debris, and stripped of the cap. They are then boiled for one hour to make them pliable enough to weave.
Waxed nylon thread is wrapped around the pine needles as they are bent to create a coil. Needles are added to wind the basket around itself.
Depending on the size, and style of each piece, a basket can take between 10 and 70 hours to complete, and no two are alike.
Once a basket is started, it is continued until completion.
Frequently braiding,
and open weaving,
is incorporated into the design.
The baskets are embellished with nickel plated brass. As opposed to silver, the nickel will not tarnish,
